Yakasai Represents Father at Launch of Dantata’s Books, Hails Kano’s Historical Legacy.
In a gathering that resonated with history and homage, the literary and political circles converged in Abuja for the prestigious launch of two seminal books authored by the esteemed Dr. Munzali Dantata.
The event, which drew a who’s who from across the nation, saw the presence of the Yakasai family, represented by Hon. Abdullahi Yakasai, the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Community Engagement.

Hon. Yakasai stood in for his father, the revered elder statesman, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, who was the Chairman of the occasion. In a heartfelt address, he painted a picture of deep, intergenerational friendship and shared history between the two families.
The books launched are significant contributions to Nigerian historiography. The first, “Behind the City Wall: We All Lived by Selling Something,” is a sweeping narrative that spans a transformative century in Kano, from the 1870s to the 1970s. Dr. Dantata masterfully tells this story through the lens of three generations of a single family, drawing extensively from his intimate conversations with the late business titan, Alhaji Aminu Dantata.

The second work, “Aminu Dantata: Life and Times of a Nigerian Entrepreneur, Commerce, Industry and the Making of Modern Nigeria,” is a definitive biography that chronicles the extraordinary journey of the iconic business mogul and philanthropist par excellence.
“Let me be clear,” Hon. Yakasai stated, his voice carrying the weight of the moment, “you cannot sit down to tell the story of Kano City without the Dantata family taking centre stage. Their legacy and the very evolution of that great city are one and the same.”
He emphasised that the late Aminu Dantata was the primary source for much of the historical account in “Behind the City Wall,” alongside Dr. Munzali Dantata’s own personal experiences growing up in the early years of an independent Nigeria.

Paying a powerful tribute to the late industrialist, Yakasai described him as a “Great Man,” whose influence and stature transcended the shores of Nigeria and Africa. “He was a figure for the whole wide world to acknowledge. This biography is not just another book; it is a national treasure that deserves to be read, discussed, and cherished by all,” he added.

On behalf of the Alhaji Tanko Yakasai family, he extended warm congratulations to Dr. Munzali Dantata for what he termed a “monumental achievement.” He praised the author for masterfully capturing the life and legacy of a man who was, in his words, “a very close associate of our father for all of our lives.”
