At least 25 worshippers have been kidnapped after bandits invaded the New Life for All Church in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State.

According to reports, service was going on smoothly until the bandits arrived on motorcycles around 10am. Confirming the incident, the Senior Special Assistant to the state governor on Christian Affair, Rev. Ishaya Jurau disclosed that the officiating pastor was injured by the hoodlums.

He said, ” Bandits attacked New Life for All Church in Jan- Tsauni, Gidan Haruna in Kankara local government of Katsina State today (Sunday) around 10 am. They abducted 25 worshippers and left the church pastor with injuries while they were conducting service this morning. “‘

While appreciating the efforts of security operatives in the face of insecurity issues in the state, he disclosed that effort was on rescue the victims.

This is coming barely 24 hours after bandits invaded St. Peters and Paul Catholic Church in Kafin- Koro, Paikoro Local Government Area of Niger state burning a priest Rev. Fr. Isaac Achi to ashes. His assistant, Father Collins sustained gunshot injuries in the attack and is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

A police report on the attack read partly, ” On 15/01/2023 at about 0300hrs, armed bandits invaded the Parish residence of one Rev. Father Isaac Achi of St. Peters and Paul Catholic Church, along Daza road, Kafin- Koro, Paikoro LGA.

“Unfortunately, the bandits attempted to gain entrance into the residence but could not so they set the house ablaze and the Father was burnt to death. Police tactical team attached to Kafin-Koro Div immediately came to the scene, bur the hoodlums had already escaped before their arrival.

Attacks on worship centres have become a constant thing in recent times. Last year, two churches in Rubu community in Kajuru local government area of Kaduna state was attacked with three person’s killed while thirty others were abducted.
