Abubakar hailed the achievement as historic, noting that it marked the first time in over 100 years that an African cadet had received the prestigious award. He described it as a breakthrough that highlights the excellence within NAF, affirming the capability of its officers to compete with the best globally.
“To our awardee, you have set a new standard, not just for your peers but for every cadet and officer who follows,” Abubakar said. “This achievement shows that no goal is beyond reach when fueled by dedication, discipline, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.”
The Air Marshal emphasized that while the accolade marks the beginning of Sangokoya’s journey, his true success will be measured by his future service, leadership, and contributions to NAF’s mission and the defense of Nigeria.

Abubakar conveyed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his steadfast commitment to the welfare and training of Nigeria’s armed forces, particularly NAF. He further acknowledged the role of the Nigerian Defence Academy and its instructors in preparing Sangokoya for international success.
“Their dedication in molding top-notch officers is evident in this remarkable achievement,” he said. “They have not only trained a leader but have given the Nigerian Air Force a legacy we will cherish for years to come.”
