Former Hamas Leader – Khalid Mashal.
Khalid Mashal, a former leader and co- founder of Hamas, the Islamist group that controls Gaza, has issued a video message calling on Muslims around the world to join a global ” jihad” and a massive protest on Friday, October 13, 2023.
The call is in solidarity with the Palestinians who are facing a brutal war with Israel. Mashal, who lives in exile in Qatar, said that Friday should be named the ” Friday of Al- Aqsa Flood” , referring to the mosque in Jerusalem that is revered by Muslims and Jews alike.
He said that Muslims should express their anger and support for the Palestinians by taking various actions, such as: Donating money to the ” fighters of Gaza” who are resisting the Israeli aggression and suffering from destruction and blockade.
He called this act ” financial jihad” . Pressuring their governments and leaders to intervene and stop the Israeli invasion of Gaza, which he said was aimed at wiping out the Palestinian resistance and existence. Participating in jihad with their souls, by fighting and martyring themselves for the sake of Al- Aqsa and Palestine.
He urged Muslims who live near Israel, such as in Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, and Egypt, as well as other countries, to march to the borders and try to enter Israel by any means possible. He said that this was the time for jihad to be applied on the ground rather than just in theory.

He also encourage militants to use boats and paragliders to infiltrate Israel from the sea and air. He concluded his message by saying: ” Although financial contribution are important, our plea today centers on your profound willingness to offer your very essence, your blood and souls, as a sacrifice for the cause of Palestine.”
Mashal’s call comes amid a fierce conflict between Israel and Hamas that started on Saturday, October 7, 2023, when Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel from Gaza, firing thousands of rockets and sending armed militants across the border by land, sea, and air.
The attack, which Hamas named operation Al-Aqsa Storm was a major intelligence failure for Israel and caught it’s military off guard. The malitants killed hundred of Israelis, including civilians and soldiers, and took dozens of hostages. Some of the hostages were shown in videos being paraded around Gaza by gunmen.
Israel responded with a massive aerial bombardment of Gaza, targeting Hamas hideouts, infrastructure, and media outlets. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that Israel was at war and vowed to reduce Hamas to “rubble.” He also warned Palestine in Gaza to “get out of there now” or face annihilation. Israel also cut off electricity and fuel supplies to Gaza, which could soon affect its medical facilities that are already overwhelmed by casualties.
The war has claimed more than 1000 lives so far. More than 2000 people have been wounded on both sides. The international community has expressed alarm over the escalating violence and called for ab immediate ceasefire. However, both Israel and Hamas have rejected any truce talks and vowed to continue fighting until their goals are achieved.
