Nigerian celebrity chef Hilda Baci has once again captured the nation’s attention and potentially, the world’s, by completing her attempt to cook the world’s largest pot of Jollof rice. The culinary feat, which took place amidst massive fanfare, now awaits the official verification and verdict from Guinness World Records.

This attempt marks a new chapter for Baci, who first shot to international fame in May 2023 when she set the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual, clocking an incredible 93 hours and 11 minutes. Although her marathon record was surpassed later that year by Irish chef Alan Fisher, she cemented her status as an inspiration. Her initial attempt, which many initially took lightly, sparked a wave of culinary ambition across Africa, with individuals in Ghana and Ivory Coast attempting to surpass her marathon record—though none came close.

Now, Baci has set her sights on a different kind of record. The new challenge was to create the largest single serving of Nigerian-style Jollof rice, a beloved West African dish. If verified, this achievement would see her bagging a second Guinness World Record, solidifying her place on a completely new level in the culinary world.
