Rapper Kanye West has lost nine million followers in one day thanks to a single tweet which really is quite something!
West has been doubling down recently on his support for US President Donald Trump drawing commentary from his wife Kim Kardashian, Trump himself and perhaps more importantly his followers.
Many were rather thrilled when the popular rapper returned to social media platform last week but then they saw his tweets and excitement quickly turned to horror.
First praising conservative commentator Candace Owens, West’s tweets increasingly took on an alt-right stance as he admitted his love for the controversial president.
One of his stranger tweets read:
You don’t have to agree with Trump but the mob can’t make me not love him. We are both dragon energy.
He is my brother. I love everyone. I don’t agree with everything anyone does. That’s what makes us individuals. And we have the right to independent thought.
Of course this received quite a mixed reaction from his fans with the majority criticising him for supporting the divisive president.
And as some Twitter users noticed, West quickly began losing followers on the platform although this also may have something to do with the sheer amount he is tweeting.
People just couldn’t help laughing as they watched his follower count diminish in size:
If this is a marketing ploy for his upcoming album, it appears to be going very, very wrong for the rapper.
At time of writing (April 25) West currently has 18.8 million followers, although this is likely to further decrease as more and more people are turned off by his support for Trump.
Even his wife Kim wasn’t too impressed although she did confirm on Twitter she understands people can have different political views writing:
Now when he spoke out about Trump… most people (including myself) have very different feelings and opinions about this. But this is HIS opinion.
I believe in people being able to have their own opinions, even if really different from mine. He never said he agrees with his politics.
Kanye will never run in the race of popular opinion and we know that and that’s why I love him and respect him and in a few years when someone else says the same exact thing but they aren’t labeled the way he is and you will all praise them! Kanye is years ahead of his time.
He’s a free thinker, is that not allowed in America? Because some of his ideas differ from yours you have to throw in the mental health card? That’s just not fair. He’s actually out of the sunken place when he’s being himself which is very expressive.
Of course West and Trump go way back with the rapper even meeting the politician at Trump Tower the day after he was named President-elect.
What do you think to Kanye’s open support of Trump on Twitter? Should people be unfollowing him just because they disagree with his political opinion?
