Manchester City Nigerian midfielder Felix Nmecha has turned down the opportunity to play for England U18s during the last international break of the 2017-2018 season.
Hamburg-born Nmecha was called up to the Young Lions squad for their friendlies against Qatar, Argentina and Belarus, and also received an invitation from the German Football Association to represent their U18 team which he accepted.
In a post on Instagram which has been deleted, Felix Nmecha strongly hinted that his international future lies with Germanyfor now.
England U18s manager Neil Dewsnip handed a late call-up to Everton’s Alex Denny as replacement for Felix Nmecha before Wednesday evening’s friendly with Qatar at St. George’s Park.
There are fears that Felix’s brother, Man City first-teamer Lukas Nmecha, may decide to play for his country of birth, Germany, rather than England even though he is part of the Young Lions set-up.
The 17-year-old Felix Nmecha is believed to have linked up with the German U18s ahead of their friendlies against France on March 23 and 26, 2018.
He has represented Manchester City in the U18 Premier League, UEFA Youth League and Premier League 2 this season.
