For a long time, Barbir lived and worked among the people of Yelewata in Benue State. During his time there, he helped rebuild about 35 homes that had been destroyed. He went about his work quietly, never drawing attention to himself or mentioning anything about his life in the military. To the community, he was simply a missionary with a kind heart and willing hands.
His humble presence and dedication to helping others left a strong impression on those he worked with. He did not seek recognition or praise. He simply showed up and got to work.
Now that his identity as a US Army soldier has come to light, many are looking back at his mission with even more respect. People have described him as a true hero, one who did not need to wear a uniform to prove his strength or his commitment to helping others.

Barbir is still actively involved in humanitarian work. He continues to work closely with Reverend Ezekiel Dachomo to support Christian communities in the northern part of Nigeria. These are areas where many people face daily threats because of insurgency and insecurity. According to reports, their only crime in the eyes of those attacking them is being Christians.

The work Barbir and Reverend Dachomo are doing together has brought relief to many families who have lost loved ones or been forced to flee their homes. Their efforts have also drawn attention to the ongoing struggles faced by Christians in parts of the North.

For the people of Yelewata and beyond, Alex Barbir is more than just a missionary or a soldier. He is proof that help can come from unexpected places, and that true strength is often found in those who serve without looking for applause.
