The hope that once burned brightly for the safe return of Abba, a young National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member kidnapped by bandits, has been replaced by a heavy silence and the bitter taste of fear. The family, who managed to raise a staggering N10 million ransom through public donations, now believes their son may have been killed by his captors.
According to sources close to the family, the ordeal took its most painful turn after the money was handed over. The abductors, who had been in constant communication during the negotiations, suddenly went quiet. Family members explained that after receiving the N10 million, the bandits came back with new demands, asking for additional items like motorcycles as a condition for releasing him. However, before the family could even process these new requests, all forms of communication from the kidnappers ceased completely.
“It’s the silence that terrifies us the most,” a family source revealed. “Since they got the ransom, they have not called or responded to any of our messages. We have no idea what happened. We are left in the dark, and with each passing day, our fears grow.”
With no word from the abductors and no sign of Abba, the family has been forced to confront the unthinkable. They have made the difficult decision to begin preparations for a funeral prayer in his absence, known in Islamic tradition as Janaza Gha’ib. The prayer is scheduled to hold on Friday, March 7.
The family is clinging to a sliver of hope, praying that Abba is somehow still alive and will find his way home. But the reality of the situation has forced them to prepare for the worst. “If he has been killed, we pray that Allah overlooks his shortcomings, accepts all his good deeds, and grants him a place in Al-Jannah Firdaus,” the family source added.

In a statement, the grieving family expressed their deep gratitude to the friends, colleagues, and community members who stood by them during this nightmare. “Abba’s family extends their heartfelt appreciation to everyone who offered support, prayers, financial help, and kind words during this very difficult time,” the statement read. “May Allah reward your kindness in ways you cannot imagine.”
