Meet Gilbert Chagoury, a billionaire, diplomat, and philanthropist from Nigeria who was born in Lagos State on January 8, 1946.
He is a co-founder of the Chagoury Group, a business conglomerate that he established in 1971 alongside his brother Ronald Chagoury. Gilbert is 75 years old today.

The Chagoury Group is an industrial conglomerate with investments in the construction of land, building, real estate, flour mills, manufacture of glass, telecommunications, and much more. Gilbert was a close associate of General Sani Abacha, who helped him to promote his interests in the country’s business.
Gilbert returned 300 million dollars to the federal government when Sani Abacha died in 1998, in order to distance himself from future criminal charges. The parents of Gilbert were both Lebanese, but they immigrated to Nigeria and lived in Lagos, where Gilbert was born.

Gilbert has also been a keen supporter of the family of Bill and Hillary Clinton, and his campaign has been supported since the 1990s. Gilbert is reportedly married to the daughter of another billionaire from Lebanon, Rose Marie Chamchoum. They have been together since 1969, and with 4 children, their marriage is blessed.
Numerous companies throughout Nigeria are owned by the Chagoury Group, including Eko Hotel and Suites, HITEC Building Company, Eko Atlantic Region, ITB contractors, and many more. Mind, during the first outbreak of COVID- 19, he also gave N1 billion to the state government of Lagos.
