Nigeria at 64: Nothing Worth Celebrating, Tinubu Government Lacks Direction – Primate Ayodele.

Primate Elijah Ayodele, leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, has stated that Nigeria’s 64th independence anniversary offers no reason for celebration, citing a lack of significant progress in the country.

In his message to mark the occasion, Ayodele expressed disappointment in Nigeria’s development, noting that the country remains severely underdeveloped in key areas such as human capital and leadership. He lamented that despite 64 years of independence, Nigeria still lags behind in many aspects.

According to the cleric, the country’s democracy has failed the people, likening independence to bondage, as the nation drifts toward a hopeless state due to poor leadership. “There is nothing special about Nigeria at 64,” he said. “We have not seen any meaningful improvement from the government. The judiciary is flawed, and human capital is stagnant. After 64 years, we are still grappling with issues we should have overcome long ago.”

Ayodele went on to describe Nigeria’s democracy as a system of “failure, starvation, bondage, and difficulty,” criticizing the electorate for choosing leaders who lack compassion. “We have been praying for change, but it seems unlikely that things will get better in this country,” he added.

Speaking on the current administration, the prophet remarked that the Tinubu government is “confused” and lacks a clear sense of direction or fear of God. He urged the government to take seven critical steps to restore hope, including reforms in electricity, education, restructuring, judiciary, economy, security, and a complete overhaul of the petroleum sector.

Ayodele emphasized that a serious government leading a 64-year-old nation would not tolerate mediocrity, urging President Tinubu to remove ineffective ministers and appointees. He specifically criticized the EFCC chairman for failing to arrest former Kogi state governor Yahaya Bello, while ordinary citizens are targeted for lesser offenses. “If the government were serious, it would have sacked key figures in the oil sector, including the NNPC GMD and the Minister of Petroleum,” he stated.

In his critique of the national assembly, Ayodele accused lawmakers of failing to work toward the nation’s success, describing them as complacent. He called on President Tinubu to improve workers’ welfare and address the poor performance of various sectors, including communications. “There is nothing to celebrate at 64; this is a time for sober reflection on our failures,” he declared.

He also pointed out the rising cost of living, with food prices becoming unaffordable for many Nigerians, and described the nation’s agricultural sector as a disappointment. “At 64, Nigeria should be a fertile land thriving in agriculture, but it has failed. We made the wrong electoral choices, and now we are reaping the consequences. This anniversary is marked by sadness, failure, and missed opportunities,” Ayodele added.

The prophet didn’t spare the religious sector, expressing disappointment in Christian leaders who he believes are hiding the country’s true situation by pretending “all is well.” He accused pastors of being more focused on fashion than addressing the nation’s pressing issues. “The religious sector has failed as well. Our pastors have been compromised. All they do is say ‘all is well,’ but clearly, it is not,” he concluded.
