Rivers Political Crisis: Fubara Admits Tinubu Forced Truce With Wike.
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has revealed that President Bola Tinubu directly intervened in his political feud with Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, instructing him to reconcile with his predecessor.
Fubara disclosed this while addressing his supporters, the “Simplified Movement,” in Port Harcourt on Saturday. He described the peace deal brokered by Tinubu as a “bitter but necessary” sacrifice for the stability of Rivers State.

The governor confirmed that during a meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Tinubu explicitly told him: “I want you and your oga to settle.” This directive came after months of escalating tensions between Fubara and Wike, which led to a political crisis in Rivers State.

The feud, which began shortly after Fubara assumed office in 2023, reached a boiling point when Tinubu declared a six-month state of emergency in the state and suspended Fubara. However, recent reconciliation efforts have seen both factions agreeing to a truce.
Despite accepting the peace accord, Fubara admitted that the resolution was difficult to swallow.

“After the meeting we had before May 29th, we’ve had a series of meetings, and one of them was with the President,” he said. “President Tinubu clearly instructed us to settle. It was a tough decision, but for the sake of peace and development in Rivers State, we had to comply.”

Wike, speaking after the Abuja meeting, had declared that peace had returned to Rivers State, with all parties agreeing to work together. However, Fubara’s latest remarks suggest lingering tensions beneath the surface.
Fubara urged his supporters to accept the reconciliation, emphasizing that the decision was made in the state’s best interest.
“We must endure this for the greater good,” he told his followers. “Our focus remains on delivering good governance to the people of Rivers State.”
The governor’s statement has sparked mixed reactions, with some viewing it as a sign of forced political compromise, while others believe it could pave the way for lasting stability in the oil-rich state.
