Sad: Popular Ijaw Singer – Ikesima Brown is Dead.

Ikesima Brown, a Nigerian musician who was widely regarded as the Niger Delta Queen of Highlife Music, has passed away as the result of a horrifying car accident.

According to reports, Ikesima and six other members of the band of the Ijaw music legend Chief Barrister Smooth died after their bus crashed with a petrol tanker on Abuja– Lokoja expressway.

The incident took place on Sunday, June 11, as the members of the band were traveling from Warri to Abuja in preparation for a performance.

Reports indicate that the ill-fated van that was transporting the popular band who were hired by a state government to sing at a reception for newly sworn-in members of the National Assembly in Abuja on Tuesday.

An eyewitness who spoke to newsmen about the horrific crash said the band members had taken a train from Warri to Kogi and were headed for Abuja when their Toyota Siena car crashed with a tanker that was loaded with petrol.

The eyewitness also revealed that all five people in the car were killed instantly with no survival. It was gathered that those who passed away in the tragedy include Chief Joseph Ekeremieye, Ikesima Brown, Ebis Awiki, Tuku, and a number of others.

Douye Diri, governor of Bayelsa State, released a statement Monday through his chief press secretary, Daniel Alabrah, expressing his sadness over the deaths of at least ten people who were natives of the Ijaw tribe.

Diri referred to the tragic incident as “a Black Sunday” for the state of Bayelsa and the Ijaw nation, emphasizing the fact that the state is currently in mourning.

The Governor of Bayelsa expressed his condolences to the families of those who had passed away as well as to Barrister Smooth. He went on to say that the demise of the young artists who were actively changing the lives of people through their music is a great loss to Nigeria and the people of Bayelsa State.
