Why Is Destiny Etiko’s Look-Alike Baby a Joke, While Cubana Chiefpriest’s Gets “Dragged” for His?
A social media user has ignited a lively online debate by calling out what he sees as a glaring double standard in the court of public opinion, pitting the recent viral stories of celebrity bartender Cubana Chiefpriest and actress Destiny Etiko against each other.
The conversation started when photos of a young girl who bears a striking resemblance to actress Destiny Etiko began circulating online. The likeness was so uncanny that many users tagged the actress, insisting the child must be hers. In response, Etiko gracefully brushed off the claims, simply stating that “God gave her baby to another person.” The moment was largely seen as a light-hearted, curious internet phenomenon.

However, one observer noted a stark contrast in the public’s reaction compared to another recent celebrity baby saga.
The user expressed his disbelief, pointing out that while Etiko faced mostly amused curiosity, Cubana Chiefpriest was met with immediate and widespread accusations. This refers to a Kenyan woman who came online last year to allege that the celebrity bartender fathered her son after a one-night stand. Despite Cubana Chiefpriest’s vehement denials, many on social media were quick to believe the claims, primarily because the young boy shares a strong physical resemblance to him. The situation escalated so much that singer Burna Boy reportedly intervened, bringing the woman to Nigeria to press the issue.

In a post that has since gone viral, the netizen laid out his argument, writing in a mix of English and Pidgin:
“This life no balance Oh… so nobody is pointing a finger at Destiny Etiko to say that she’s the owner of the baby that resembles her to the core, but everyone in Naija believes that Cubana Chiefpriest is the father of that Kenyan baby boy.”
He continued, stressing his point about gender favouritism: “Burna Boy even went the extra mile to get the lady to Naija just to prove a point, but right now, in the case of Destiny Etiko, Nobody is accusing her of being the mother of the baby because she’s a woman and not a man. What do men do, world people?”

His post has opened a floodgate of reactions, with many agreeing that there is an inherent bias where women are often given the benefit of the doubt in such matters, while men are immediately presumed guilty in the court of public opinion. Others, however, argue that the contexts are different, citing the presence of a direct accusation against Cubana Chiefpriest versus the absence of one for Destiny Etiko.
The discussion continues to rage online, highlighting the complex and often unforgiving nature of social media scrutiny.
