In the last quarter of 2023, Switzerland recorded a total of 251,226 job vacancies, according to the latest Jobradar by x28 AG, a platform dedicated to Swiss labor market data.

Skills Shortage and Future Prospects

A September 2023 study by the University of St. Gallen and Advance highlighted a skills shortage in Switzerland, expected to worsen with the retirement of Baby Boomers. The GDI predicts up to 400,000 unfilled positions by 2030, creating opportunities for foreign workers.

In-Demand Professions

Q4 2023 Jobradar reveals high demand for professions such as Care Specialist/Nurse, Electrician, Sales Advisor, Carpenter, Project Manager, Software Developer, Polymechanic, Healthcare Specialist, Service Technician, Commercial Clerk, Sanitary Installer, Logistics Specialist, Automation Specialist, Retail Trade Specialist, and Cooks.

Additional Opportunities

There’s also a demand for mechanics, machine operators, gardeners, construction project managers, system engineers, team leaders, painters, and metalworkers.

Work Visa Requirements

Non-EU/EFTA citizens must obtain a visa to work in Switzerland, requiring a university degree, relevant experience, specific expertise, and a confirmed job offer. Employers must verify the unavailability of an EU/EFTA citizen for the position.

Easier Access for Third-Country Workers

Switzerland has simplified rules for third-country workers applying for a work visa, emphasizing accessibility for qualified workers aligned with the country’s economic interests.
