The Three Fela’s Children Who Refused To Follow His Footsteps Like Their Other Siblings.

Fela Anikulapo- kuti fondly called Abami Eda was a popular Nigerian legendary singer, political activist, bandleader, instrumentalist and a well- known Pan- Africanist. Fela Anikulapo- kuti who also combines Nigerian pidgin and his mother language, Yoruba to produced songs can be considered as the founder of the Afrobeat genre.

However, the Afrobeat singer, Fela Anikulapo- kuti who allegedly died of HIV Aids on the 2nd of August 1997 produced 7 children before his demise. Meanwhile, It was reported that Fela married 27 wives but later simultaneously picked 12 among his 27 wives after he was warned by the government.

Anyway, before Fela Anikulapo- kuti died, some of his children were following his footstep, meaning they were singers who created their own way of singing and to keep their father legacy except three of his children who refused to follow his footstep though they tried to keep his legacy.

However, his first legitimate wife, Remilekun Taylor gave birth to three children, Yeni Anikulapo- kuti, Sola, and Femi, while his other 12 wives gave birth to the other 5 children are Seun, Kunle, Omosalewa, and Motunrayo. In this article, I will be writing about the three children of Fela Anikulapo- kuti who refused to follow their father footstep.

Kunle Anikulapo- kuti is the second son of the legendary singer. He was born in 1971, and he is well respected in society.

Kunle Anikulapo- kuti Is The Manager Of A Museum

Unlike his brothers and other siblings who follow their father’s footsteps by producing music, Kunle Anikulapo- kuti is the manager of a museum, and it was reported that he is the founder of the Kalakuta museum alongside his sister, Yeni.

Though he owns a record label, which he named ‘ Afro fusion’ and the purpose of the record label was to maintain his father legacy and the record label is doing well.

The Third Daughter Of Fela, Shalewa Kuti

Omosalewa Anikulapo- kuti better known as Dj Shaarks is the third daughter of the legendary singer, Fela. Omosalewa was born in 1976 to her mother who was a nursing sister, Funmilayo Anikulapo- kuti.

Omosalewa is a professional lawyer and an entrepreneur. Omosalewa did not involve too much in music unlike her siblings, but she is a Disc Jockey and a record label boss.

She once disclosed in an interview that she wished she can become a well-known singer like her father, but she didn’t have the charisma.

Last Born Of Fela Anikulapo- kuti, Motunrayo

Motunrayo, is also the daughter and legally last born of the legendary singer, Fela Anikulapo- kuti. Motunrayo Anikulapo- kuti mother was a famous dancer, who danced for her father, Fela Anikulapo- kuti during their time.

Motunrayo Fela Anikulapo- kuti who once dance under her older brother, Femi Kuti is an entrepreneur and a well-respected businesswoman. The last child of the legendary Singer, Motunrayo Anikulapo- kuti is also among the 3 children of Fela who didn’t follow their footsteps as a singer.

Motunrayo once disclosed in an interview that she decided to follow in her mother’s footsteps since she can’t sing, but the dance in her body fade away because she can’t keep up to it anymore.

Meanwhile, Motunrayo Anikulapo- kuti also try to maintain her father’s legacy, by opening a record label which she titled Ifeniomus Entertainment. Motunrayo stated that the reason for the record label is to promote upcoming stars and produce a legendary singer like her father.

Anyway, the above people are Fela Anikulapo- kuti Children who didn’t follow his footstep by becoming a singer, and they are doing well in their respective fields of career. Meanwhile, his other 5 children who follow his footstep have really makes name for themselves.
