Tinubu Appoints Speaker Abbas to Lead Bauchi APC Reconciliation.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, to chair a committee tasked with resolving internal disputes within the Bauchi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The appointment was announced in a statement from the speaker’s office.
The committee is comprised of several high-profile members, including Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, former Speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara, and two senior presidential aides: Abdullahi Abubakar Gumel and Ibrahim Masari. Jake Dan-Azumi, the speaker’s chief of staff, will serve as the committee’s secretary.

The committee held its inaugural meeting in Abuja in late July to devise a strategy for its work. Speaker Abbas stated that the ongoing crisis within the Bauchi APC was serious enough to require the president’s direct intervention. He emphasized that President Tinubu carefully selected the members based on their integrity and ability to get the job done, urging them to complete their assignment within one month, before the upcoming APC congresses.
During its initial meeting, the panel reviewed the history of the conflict, which reportedly dates back to the party’s 2015 primaries. It was decided that the committee would embark on a fact-finding mission and engage with key stakeholders to get a full picture of the situation.

On July 31, the committee, with Governor Buni presiding in Abbas’s absence, met with several influential figures from the Bauchi APC. The gathering, held at the Yobe governor’s lodge in Abuja, included former Bauchi governors Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar and Isa Yuguda, as well as the Minister of Health, Mohammed Ali Pate, and other party leaders.
The committee is expected to submit its final report and recommendations to the president for further action in the coming weeks.
