Tragedy: 43 Christians Killed Including Pastor and His Wife In Revenge Attack By Suspected Fulani Jihadist In Nasarawa State.
Revenge for the death of a Fulani jihadi led to a tragic incident in which a pastor, his wife, and 41 other individuals were killed in an attack on two predominantly Christian villages in Nasarawa state, Nigeria.
The attack was said to have been carried out by Fulani jihadi.
Rev. Daniel Danbeki, a pastor from the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in Takalafiya village, Karu County, and his wife were among the victims. The assailants targeted sleeping villagers, resulting in the deaths of women, children, and elderly people who were unable to escape or defend themselves. The attackers, described as armed Muslim terrorists and herdsmen, indiscriminately shot at anyone they came across during the ambush.
The neighboring village of Gwanja was also attacked, and the ECWA District Church Council Chairman, Rev. Danladi Ndoh, confirmed the destruction of the church building and many houses in both communities. The attack left a devastating impact on the affected Christian communities.
Survivors and witnesses expressed their grief and frustration over the lack of assistance and attention from the government. Many wounded victims received treatment at the Federal Medical Center in Keffi, but four of them tragically died from their injuries due to a lack of proper medical care. The medical bills of the victims is piled up, with no government officials offering assistance or visiting the victims in the hospital.
Isaac Dabu, a resident of Takalafiya highlighted the challenging situation faced by the Christian victims. He emphasized that the Nasarawa state government had not addressed the attack or provided aid to the displaced Christians, leaving them to their own fate. Dabu also raised questions about the motive behind the attacks, expressing concerns about the way Christians were being targeted while the state and federal governments failed to protect them.
Accordingly reports, the k!llings were carried out as retaliation for the death of one herdsman. The herdsman had trespassed on a farmer’s land with his cattle and the farmer objected, the herdsman attacked him with a cutlass. In self-defense, the farmer used the cutlass against the herdsman resulting in his death. However, the subsequent attack on the Christian Villages cannot be justified by this incident. The pastor and wife had no connection whatsoever with the death of the herdsman that led to the reprisal attack.
It’s said when government keeps quiet in national matters like this that has claimed the lives of innocent Nigerians.
