Two Powerful Southerners That Can End Shekau And Boko Haram If Given A Chance
Boko Haram has been a constant threat to the peace and security of the citizens of Nigeria, especially in the North. Led by Abubakar Shekau, Boko Haram has caused mayhem and even challenged the Nigerian army.
However, some southerners could go toe to toe with Boko Haram and could put an end to them if given the chance. Not Nnamdi Kanu or Sunday Igboho, we are talking about southerners who have also terrorized the peace of the country in the past.
- Asari Dokubo
Born as a Nigerian and currently, a Beninese, Asari Dokubo is known as the boss of the Niger Delta People’ s Volunteer Force (NDPVF). NDPVF is a powerful militant group created by Asari Dokubo.
This set of militants once caused serious mayhem In the southern parts of Nigeria. They attacked oil pipelines especially during the time of their trouble with Niger Delta Vigilante which was led by Ateke Tom. Their troubles led to a massive drop in oil production in Nigeria and a push in the price of petroleum worldwide.

The crisis caused by Asari Dokubo and his gang affected Nigeria greatly and Olusegun Obasanjo who was the president at that time invited him and Ateke for peace talks.
The peace talk didn’ t go so well as Asari refused to endorse the legitimacy of Olusegun Obasanjo. He was arrested but was later released by late President Umaru Yar’ Adua and he was granted amnesty. As part of the deal to endorse peace in the Niger Delta region, Asari Dokubo agreed to be collecting 10 million dollars yearly (3. 8 billion naira) from the Nigerian government.
- Tompolo
Tompolo is a former commander and leader of Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND) one of the largest militant groups.
Thousands of militants were under his command when he was a major threat to the peace of Nigeria. He reportedly owned multiple warships and he succeeded causing troubles for several oil companies and he caused mayhem in different parts of southern Nigeria.
Thankfully, he was granted amnesty by late President Umaru Yar’ Adua for peace to reign in Nigeria.
He disappeared without a trace in 2014 and he was granted an arrest warrant by President Buhari for theft and money laundering in 2016.
However, during the time of the EndSars protest, a video that went viral on social media shows Tompolo with a large number of boys at Egbesu Shrine in his Oporoza country home in Gbaramatu, Delta State. Also, keep in mind that Tompolo is the chief priest of the Egbesu deity who’ s also called the Niger- Deltan god of war.
If these men and their boys join forces with the Nigerian army, I don’ t think Shekau and Boko Haram stand a chance.
