VIDEO: Man Claims Soldiers Killed in Okuama Delta State Were Allegedly Sent By Tompolo Over Land Issue.
A video concerning the crisis in Okuama, where 17 soldiers lost their lives, alleged that the deployed soldiers were not peacekeepers but purportedly sent by former freedom fighter Tompolo.
In the video, a resident of Okuama, reportedly in his mid-20s, elaborates on the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident, indicating that the deceased troops were allegedly tasked not with maintaining peace but with safeguarding the interests of former Niger Delta fighter, Tompolo.
The man points to longstanding land disputes between Okuama and Okoloba villages, exacerbated by the presence of Ijaw people associated with Tompolo.
According to the man in the video, the federal government’s efforts to curb illegal bunkering activities have empowered specific Ijaw groups to utilize the military for safeguarding their oil products during transportation and sales. This situation, he argues, has heightened tensions and conflicts in the region, resulting in the unfortunate loss of lives during the soldiers’ engagement.

Despite potential consequences, the man asserts his commitment to truth by declaring that this video will be his last public statement, and he is unafraid of being declared wanted by the government.
The video has sparked widespread debates regarding the role of security forces in local disputes and whether military involvement exacerbates or resolves conflicts. Furthermore, the allegations in the video have reignited discussions about the need for national restructuring or division to address underlying grievances and protect lives.
President Ahmed Bola Tinubu has pledged to apprehend and prosecute those responsible for the killings.
