7. Word of Life Bible Church
World of Life Bible Church is situated in the Benin city, Nigeria. It was founded in 1987 by its principal pastor, Ayo Oritsejafor. The church receives over 30,000 people per week and has a massive representative all over the world.
6. CRC Christian Church
On the 6th place of our list, we have CRC Christian church. We have to say that this is the only church on our list, situated in South Africa. Week attendance of the CRC Christian Church is about 32,000. It was created with the forces of two pastors, At and Nyretta Boshoff in 1994. When observing the growing popularity of this church, we can assume that in a few years it can climb even higher on our list of the biggest churches in Africa.
5. The United Family International Church
This is the only church on our list, situated in Zimbabwe. Also, this is the youngest church on our list. It was founded in 2006. The construction, where the church is located, is also great and has over 20 thousand seats. The United Family International Church has a lot of members, and the attendance rate is about 35,000 per week. It’s necessary to say that this church has other buildings in use, but the biggest is situated in Zimbabwe, in the cities of Harare and Chitungwiza. This church was established by Emmanuel Makandiwa.
4. Apostolic Church
This church, as the other remain on our list, is situated in Nigeria. This one, in particular, is located in Lagos. In fact, it has the name “Apostolic Church of Lagos”, so you wouldn’t miss the place. This church is one of the oldest in Africa and the oldest on our list. It was founded in the 1906 year and from those times it began to gain many followers. Apostolic Church building has not so big seating capacity, like other churches in Africa, about 10,000 seats. But the attendance rate talks for itself: over 40,000 people visit this church every week.
Currently, the head of this church and its main pastor is Gabriel Olutola. The Apostolic Church of Lagos has several branches across Africa and the world.
3. Redeemed Christian Church of God
On the 3rd position, we have another Lagos based church. It was created in 1953 by Josiah Akindayomi. Now, the Redeemed Christian Church of God has branches in 190 countries all over the world. And it has a really big number of attendees each week: more than 50,000.
2. Living Faith Church of Winners Chapel
In the 2nd place, we have the Winners Chapel — the main campus of the Living Faith Church. The leader of this church, Pastor David Oyedepo founded it in 1983, and through the first years, it became very popular. On the first year, the church had only 11 members, but today its membership is about 15-20 million. The church has a presence in over 65 countries, and it has the biggest church auditorium in Africa and entire world. The church was marked in Guinness Book of Records for its auditorium.
1. Deeper Christian Life Ministry
Accordingly to the data, gathered in 2016, Deeper Christian Life Ministry has more than 65,000 attendances per week. This fact makes it the winner on our list, and the most popular church in Africa and the biggest church in Nigeria as per weekly attendance. The main quarters of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry are situated in Lagos. This church was founded in 1973, when a former math teacher, William Kumuyi, started to teach a group of students the scriptures. Now he is the pastor of largest church in Africa.
The church followers could be found all over the world. From the beginning, Deeper Christian Life Ministry had spread its influence in sub-Saharan Africa. After this, it has travelled abroad, to the United Kingdom, from where it started to spread in Europe and America.
