13-Year-Old Boy Commits Suicide After Alleged Torture by Soldeir in Kaduna.

A 13-year-old boy, Wisdom Hashimu, died by suicide in the Ungwan Maigero Community of Chikun Local Government Area, Kaduna State.

The incident occurred on Thursday, June 7, following alleged torture by a soldier and members of the local Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF).

Wisdom, who took his own life in his family’s compound on Lafiya Sarki Street, had been falsely accused of stealing N10,000 from a neighbor on June 1.

According to a report by Channels TV, a 16-year-old neighbor named Hope had invited her boyfriend, Segun Samson, a soldier stationed at Bodi Camp in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State. The money went missing during the visit, leading Hope to involve her boyfriend, who then took Wisdom and her brother to the Civilian JTF office.

Wisdom, who was preparing for his Junior Secondary School examinations, was reportedly beaten severely by the soldier and Civilian JTF members.

Wisdom’s father, Mr. Saul, recounted to the news outlet, “Instead of reporting to the police, the soldier dragged Wisdom and Hope’s brother to the Civilian JTF office. There, Wisdom was beaten so badly he couldn’t walk and had to receive medical attention.”

Tragically, Wisdom’s lifeless body was found hanging in their compound on Thursday.

Mr. Saul expressed his anguish, stating that the Civilian JTF had taken the law into their own hands by torturing his son. “Unimaginably, they beat Wisdom to the point of coma while Hope’s brother was spared. After questioning at home, Hope’s brother confessed to the theft, and N9,000 was found in his pocket, with N1,000 already spent,” he added.

The family is now demanding justice for the torture they believe led to Wisdom’s death.
