Another Chibok Girl – Mary Nkeki Rescued by Troops After Years of Captivity.
Mary Nkeki, a young woman abducted as part of the infamous Chibok girls kidnapping, has been rescued from captivity after enduring years of unimaginable hardship.
This recent success can be attributed to the determined efforts of the troops of Operation Hadin Kai Theater Command, who have continued their unwavering mission to liberate those held hostage by insurgents.
Mary Nkeki’s harrowing journey of captivity finally came to an end on August 14 when troops from the 81 Task Force Battalion executed a strategic operation in the Dikwa area, a known stronghold of the terrorist organization.
Alongside her, Mary’s husband, Adam, who was a former member of the insurgency group, was also rescued. Their escape from the clutches of Boko Haram shows a glimmer of hope amid the darkness of the ongoing conflict.
Maj. Gen. Gold Chibuisi, the Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, conveyed this heartening massage to the media on Monday, August 21. Mary Nkeki, listed as serial number 55 among the abducted Chibok girls, is now 27 years old and hails from the Kibaku tribe. During her captivity, she was forcibly married to Adam, a member of the Boko Haram terrorist group and they has two daughters who are now deceased.
Mary’s rescue did not mark the end of her ordeal; rather, it signified the beginning of her path to healing and recovery.
After undergoing thorough medical examinations at the military’s medical facility, Mary was handed over to Borno State Government officials. This transfer of custody represents a vital step in her journey to rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
Tragically, Mary’s tale is not all there is, Many Chibok girls remain in captivity, subjected to the horrors of life as captives of Boko Haram. As with Mary, several have been forcibly married off and even forced to bear children for their captors. These unspeakable abuses is heartbreaking. There is urgency and efforts need to be intensified to locate and liberate these young women.
Amid the stories of resilience and rescue, one name remains etched in the collective memory: Leah Sharibu. A Christian Chibok girl who steadfastly refused to convert to Islam, Leah continues to endure captivity, her plight serving as a powerful reminder of the brutality inflicted by the terrorist group.
Her courage and strength in the face of immense adversity resonate with millions around the world, propelling a renewed commitment to securing her release and the freedom of all those still held captive.
