Anthony Joshua’s Win over Kubrat Pulev Set Stage for Next Biggest Heavyweight Championship Fight with Tyson Fury.

It’s no longer news that Anthony Joshua has defeated Bulgaria’s Kubrat Pulev by a knockout in the ninth round to retain his three World Heavyweight Championship Belts.

Joshua’s latest record has, however, set the stage for what could be described as the next biggest unification Heavyweight Championship Fight with Tyson Fury, since Muhammad Ali-Joe Frazier in 1971.

It would be recalled that Ali and Frazier slugged it out in the popular “Fight of the Century” on March 8, 1971 at Madison Square Garden in New York City in the United States of America, which saw the latter emerging as the undisputed WBC/WBA Heavyweight Champion.

Fast forward to 2021, the world is about to witness another biggest fight on earth between Fury and Joshua.

While Fury, who has not been in the ring since beating Deontay Wilder in February, boasted to knock Joshua out in three rounds, the latter simply said he’s not fighting to prove any point to anyone.

Fury: “I want the fight. I want the fight next. I will knock him (Joshua) out inside three rounds.”

Joshua: “We don’t have to prove anything to no one but ourselves. I started this game in 2013 and I’ve been chasing the belts ever since.

“Whoever has got the belt, I would love to compete with them. If that is Tyson Fury then let it be Tyson Fury.”

As the world awaits the next biggest Heavyweight Championship Fight, one thing that’s certain for now is that Joshua, born to Nigerian parents, remains the World Heavyweight Champion.

He has regained WBA, WBO and IBF titles in a rematch against Andy Ruiz Jr. last December in Saudi Arabia, after being stopped by the Mexican-American in an upset at Madison Square Garden that summer.

Commenting on his fight against Pulev at the Wembley Arena in London on Sunday, Joshua said: “Less talk, more action. I hope everyone was satisfied tonight. For me, I stuck to what I know best, boxing. You ask the crowd what they want to see!”
