In an interview with Nija Eye International, Eeben Barlow said his group was on the verge of annihilating Boko Haram when the order to halt the operation came.
According to Eben Barlow, the plan was to attack one of Boko Haram’ s main camps, then their hideout, and this is exactly what happened.
He said this happened during the 2015 presidential election, and that former President Goodluck Jonathan decided to declare the end of the insurgency after winning the election at the time.
Unfortunately, he lost the election to President Muhammadu Buhari, whom he said was allegedly supported by the US.

In his interview, Barlow hinted that President Buhari’ s campaign manager was from the United States.
In an effort to assist Nigeria in ending the Boko Haram insurgency, he wondered why the operation was not a priority for the current government, which prevented the country from ridding itself of one of its greatest threats.
” We started by mapping out one place in the south, and once that’ s over, we’ ll mop up in the north. The division would move in the direction of the occupying forces. We’ ll train the division, set up defensive lines, and so on, but we’ ll never be allowed to carry out the entire operation.
So, in just one month, we reclaimed territory the size of Belgium from Boko Haram. We were not able to finish because it occurred during a time when governments were changing presidents. Jonathan’ s government may have seen the whole Boko Haram contract as a last- ditch effort to regain popularity.

It was the United States, we were told, that had financed President Buhari’ s campaign. ” I am not saying the United States is bad; I understand foreign interests, but I would have thought that a threat like Boko Haram to the integrity of the State of Nigeria should be a priority, ” he said.
