Finally FG Decides on When Schools will reopen.
According to the federal government, schools still remain closed until the federal government can be assured that students, pupils can attend daily classes or lectures without the risk of contracting coronavirus infection.
Minister of state for education, Emeka Nwajiuba, who said this at the daily briefing of the presidential task force on coronavirus, disclosed that ” until we are very sure that our children can go to school and return safely with bringing back coronavirus home to their families, we are not taking the risk of reopening schools.
Clarifying that an announcement suggesting schools should reopen on June 8, 2020, was not said by the government, he said the administration would work in hand with experts and the World Health Organisation (WHO) before schools can reopen.
The Federal Ministry of Education will disclose COVID-19 guidelines for school, he said. According to him, the government is working on a model to ensure that all children do not return home at the same time, with a view to facilitating physical distancing and sanitation.
In his words: “We want all our children to go to school by the time the schools should have been able to achieve physical distancing. The plan means adopting a two-shift system and allowing those who will write exams to return earlier than others.
So before reopening school, the federal government would have been assured that these guidelines must be adhered to.
However, for now school are still closed.
