Alessandro Nesta was born on 19th March 1976 in Rome. He developed in the Lazio youth system and made his name with the Biancocelesti where he became the captain and a symbol of the capital club.
He won seven trophies with Lazio. The 2000 Serie A title, the 1999 Cup Winners’ Cup, the European Supercup in 1999, two Coppa Italias (1998 and 2000) and two Supercoppa Italianas (1998 and 2000).
In 2002 he moved to AC Milan where he won a further ten trophies. Above all, he became a European champion after winning the Champions League in 2003 and 2007. Nesta also won the Club World Cup in 2007. The defender won two more Serie A titles with the Rossoneri in 2004 and 2011.
In 2012 he moved to Canada where he spent one season with the Montreal Impact before announcing his retirement from football. However, in 2014 he came back to play for Chennaiyin in the Indian league during a brief cameo before the definitive end of his playing career.
Nesta’s story with the Azzurri began in 1996 with victory at the Under-21 European Championship. He made his senior debut in the same year on 5th October in a World Cup qualification match which Italy won 3-0 in Chisinau against Moldova. He took part in two European Championships and three World Cups, winning the trophy in 2006 as part of Marcello Lippi’s side. He played in the three group games in Germany before being forced out of action by an injury picked up against the Czech Republic.
Nesta’s Italy career ended on 11th October 2006 with a 3-1 win away in Tbilisi over Georgia in the qualifying campaign for Euro 2008. Overall, he represented his country 78 times.’
Between September 2015 and November 2017, he was Head Coach of Miami F.C in the North American Soccer League.
