Sometime in 2008, I had the privilege of traveling with The Late Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abubakar Rimi of blessed memory.
On driving into kano, we were waiting for the traffic light to go green when some haggard looking youths were peeping through the windows of his Toyota Jeep.
He said, Engineer, you see these young boys roaming the streets, one day I wanted to buy a newspaper at this very point when from nowhere one of them snatched away the N1000 note and abused me saying how can you spend a whole N1000 on newspaper when I don’t have a dime to eat? Late Rimi said Engr.

I quickly wound up the glasses and told the driver to drive off. He continued, one day if these young men are not taken care of, we can’t ride these cars, we can’t hold expensive phones, we can’t live in beautiful houses.
They will chase us out and hack us to death. Today, when I came across this chilling video, the encounter with the Late leader came back fresh in my mind. It’s beyond SARS. It’s beyond banditry. It’s economic imbalance. It’s poverty. It’s lack of education. It’s abuse of public trust.
