Panic In Osogbo As Cultists Go On Rampage, Attack Policemen on Duty.
There was pandemonium in the Gbaemu area of Osogbo, Osun State, on Sunday, as suspected cultists, who were trying to extort money from workers at a construction site in the area, clashed with policemen attached to the Operation Puff Adder
The suspected armed cultists, not fewer than 20 in number, stormed the area to extort money from worker, working at a building project site.
It was gathered that while negotiations between the workers and the suspected cultists were going on, a police van drove by and the police operatives in the van ordered the cultists to leave immediately.
These infuriated the hoodlums, who mobbed the policemen before a reenforcement team arrived and the cultists were dislodged.
It was gathered that two of the suspects were arrested by the police and taken away.
It was further gathered from residents of the area, who disclosed that the incident caused serious panic as cultists went on rampage and several gunshots were fired, making residents to run for their safety while motorists made a detour to avoid being hit by stray bullet.

An eyewitness said, ” The incident caused panic. Several shots were fired in the air by the police to dislodge the cultists. The shooting was heavy and many motorists plying the Station Road had to make a detour to avoid being hit by bullets. Some traders, who had opened, hurriedly shut their shops.
” A PoS operator, who the cultists suspected was recording them, was attacked. They looted his shop and his money was stolen. The suspects later fled towards Oja Oba when more policemen arrived at the scene. But two of them were arrested and taken away in a police van. “

As at the time of filling this report, efforts to get the reaction of Yemisi Opalola, the police spokesperson for the command, was unsuccessful as she did not take calls or reply to text messages sent to her phone on the incident.
