Special forces brigade troops reportedly killed 10 suspected Boko Haram members after a shooting in the village of Sassaawa, a community in the local government area of Marte, Borno state on the 11th of March 2021

A military source revealed that troops recovered weapons including AK- 47 rifles, mortar tubes and a machine gun after the clash, which was part of the second phase of the ongoing Operation Tura Takaibango.

“The demining assault was based on the directives given by the Chief of Staff of the Army (COAS) Ibrahim Attahiru during his visit to the theater of Operation LAFIYA DOLE. During its recent operational visit to Dikwa, SFOC gave direction to troops to advance and retake Marte and subsequently project further to clear other adjacent villages which include Sassawa, Chikun Gudu, Kerenoa and surrounding areas.

“Following the directive, the valiant troops entered, achieved the objective and projected forward. During the demining operation, troops encountered heavy fleets of terrorists, engaged them and ultimately wiped out. During this meeting, 10 members of the sect were killed, ” the source told SaharaReporters.

The incident comes just two days after troops killed around 25 insurgents in the Chikun Gudu and Kerenoa areas.

Two soldiers were killed, however, while seven others were injured in the attack.

In the meantime, the federal government has reiterated its earlier decision not to negotiate with the Boko Haram bandits and insurgents terrorizing the country.

National Security Advisor (NSA) Major General Babagana Monguno (Rtd) said this Thursday during the weekly ministerial meeting at the State House in Abuja.

Monguno said the government would rather use different kinectic forces to drive the criminals out of their hiding places than engage in a dialogue with the criminals.

“Although the government does not shy away from talking, it must apply the necessary force because you cannot trust these people.

“The government wants to use military means to eliminate them, but if along the line they come out, so much the better. It portrays the image of weakness, of inability, “Monguno said.
