
UPDATE: Teacher Who Assaulting 3-Year-Old Boy in Christ- Mitos Primary School Lagos Pleads Not Guilty (VIDEO).
A 45-year-old teacher, Stella Nwadigo, has been remanded by the Ogba Chief Magistrate Court for allegedly assaulting a three-year-old pupil, Abayomi Michael, of Christ-Mitos Primary School in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
The incident, captured in a viral video on Wednesday, showed Nwadigo repeatedly slapping the toddler for not learning to write numbers quickly. The video sparked public outrage and condemnation, leading to the teacher’s immediate arrest.

During her arraignment on Thursday, the police prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, informed the court that the incident occurred on January 7, 2025, around 11 a.m. at the school. Raji revealed that Nwadigo physically assaulted the pupil by delivering multiple fist blows, causing facial injuries and swelling. He further stated that the offenses violated Sections 135 and 172 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges. Consequently, Magistrate Olabisi Kusanu granted her bail in the sum of N200,000, with two sureties who must be gainfully employed. Despite the bail ruling, Nwadigo was remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Facility until February 18, 2025, when the case will resume.

In a statement, Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the arrest and arraignment of Nwadigo. He disclosed that after the video was brought to the attention of the police, the Family Support Unit of Ikorodu Police Division arrested the teacher and transferred her to the Gender Unit of the Command Headquarters for further investigation. The injured pupil was taken to a medical facility for proper care.

The Commissioner of Police, Olanrewaju Ishola, commended members of the public for their swift action in reporting the case and assured citizens of the police’s commitment to ensuring justice and child safety.
Meanwhile, Christ-Mitos Primary School announced Nwadigo’s indefinite suspension, describing her actions as unacceptable. The school regretted the incident and apologised to the pupil’s family. It assured the public of its zero tolerance for misconduct, adding that it had initiated mandatory training sessions for teachers to reinforce child protection protocols and positive disciplinary practices.
Additionally, the school introduced a whistleblowing system to encourage prompt reporting of inappropriate behavior and pledged to foster a safe and respectful learning environment.
