Popular social media activist Martins Otse, better known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has finally regained his freedom after days in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). His arrest last Friday sparked nationwide outrage, with Nigerian youths demanding his immediate release.
A video circulating online shows VeryDarkMan alongside human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju shortly after his release. The footage has brought relief to his supporters, particularly the “Ratel Family”—his loyal fanbase—who had been vocal on social media, calling for his freedom. Why Was VeryDarkMan Arrested?
The EFCC had claimed that VDM was arrested due to “petitions” against him and alleged that he ignored previous invitations. However, his supporters argue that his arrest was an attempt to silence his criticism of public figures and government agencies.
