During his visit to the Imo Police Command headquarters and Owerri Prison on Tuesday, Adamu ordered police officers to ” crush IPOB and ESN” and deal ruthlessly with members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and ESN.

President Buhari had extended his tenure on 4 February 2021, contrary to the provisions of the Police Act 2020, Section 7 (6) of which stipulates a single four-year term with no option of renewal for the incumbent Inspector General of Police.

It states that ” the person named to the position of Inspector General of Police shall hold office for a period of four years. “

” Each police officer shall, on induction or appointment, serve in the police for 35 years or until he attains the age of 60 years, whichever is earlier, ” according to Section 18 (8) of the Act signed by President Buhari on September 15, 2020.

Adamu, however, had served two months and three days of the three- month extension.

His successor, Alkali, who was DIG of the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCIID), was appointed by the Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi, on Tuesday.

The Nigerian Army has confirmed airstrikes on some communities in Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Nigerian Air Force said the ground and air team carried out an attack on criminals who had procured dangerous weapons in Ntak Ikot Akpan.

The Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima, said on Wednesday that the community was bombed because ” the group has attacked several security agencies in recent weeks, resulting in loss of lives and hoarding of weapons. The latest incident resulted in the death of some policemen, including a Chief Superintendent of Police. “

According to an army spokesman, ” The security situation in Akwa Ibom State had been relatively calm until recently, when the situation around the state’ s Essien Udim Local Government Area became tense due to the activities of some hoodlums and criminal elements. The criminals used a variety of methods to obtain weapons and carry out their heinous crimes. The group has targeted several security forces in recent weeks, resulting in the deaths of several people and the theft of weapons. “

” The latest incident resulted in the death of several police officers, including a CSP. The hoodlums continue to terrorise law- abiding citizens through extortion and violation of their rights. “

” To root out the miscreants, a joint team of state military and security agencies conducted a clean- up operation in Ntak Ikot Akpan. The operation was completed successfully, with the miscreants being evicted and the fleeing hoodlums being neutralized by the air part. “

” Normalcy has been restored in the area and the police have taken full control and are carrying out their duties normally. The public is advised not to panic but remain calm and continue to support the security agencies to consolidate the gains made so far. “
