Tension!!! As CNG Fires Back At Southern Governors Over the Ban on Open Cattle Grazing in Nigeria.

The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) claims that the 17 Southern governors’ 10- point declaration in Asaba, Delta State, has revealed the North’s long history of leadership failure.

It said this in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday by its spokesman, Abdul- Azeez Suleiman.

The Coalition, which criticized Southern governors for banning open cattle grazing in their jurisdictions, said it was past time for Northern state leaders to take immediate action to halt the mass migration of millions of people from the South into the vast interior of the north.

” The Asaba meeting exposed the extent of the bankruptcy of northern governors who have not, for once, met to take concrete steps to anticipate and checkmate the maneuvers of the South, especially with the development of such armed outfits as the Amotekun, Eastern Security Network, and recently the Ebubeagu, which are now the tools used to intimidate northerners in the South a, ” the statement read.

” It also revealed the northern governors’ complete failure to speak out for northerners’ rights to be protected from unlawful persecution where they work, their rights to places of worship, and their rights to full security while they live as minorities among other groups in Nigeria. “

The CNG also accused the southern governors of falsely blaming the herders’ business community for the region’ s security problems.

” Just as development and population growth have placed pressure on available land and increased the chances of conflict between migrant herders and local communities, the mass migration of millions of people from the South into the vast interior of the North, and the permanent existence of this movement, has also put pressure on available land and increased the chances of conflict between migrating herders and local populations.

” Disappointingly, rather than singling out a single ethnic group for assault and irreverent treatment, the southern governors were afraid to hit the nail on the head by not keeping the absolute failure of the All Progressives Congress administration of Muhammadu Buhari and Yemi Osinbajo responsible for the current national woes. “

As a result, Suleiman demanded that the federal government issue a National Policy on Grazing and Livestock Development (NPGLD) to meet the needs of all pastoral communities across the country.

” There is no reason to oppose or even challenge the existence of special initiatives to address the needs of herdsmen if these initiatives would result in long- term peace and stability, ” he insisted.

The Northern groups announced that they would not participate in any national dialogue on security that might arise now or in the future if it did not include a final discussion on the actualization of Biafra and the resolution of any other pending secessionist or self- determination question.

Last week, the southern governors had held a meeting and come to a resolution that open grazing be banned, and the country be restructured. They also called upon President Muhammadu Buhari to address the nation.

The resolution(s) of the meeting, however, didn’t go down well with the northern elders and has created mixed reactions.
