Three Young Women Arrested for Staging Their Own Kidnap and Demanding ₦5M Ransom in Lagos.
Police in Lagos have apprehended three young women for orchestrating a fake kidnapping and demanding a ransom of ₦5 million. The suspects, identified as Margret Itodo (25), Agnes Ogbeh (23), and Esther Anyanwu (24), along with Anthony Chinakwe (24), were arrested by detectives from the Lagos State Police Command.
The incident began when Agnes Ogbeh, who resides in Akure, traveled to Lagos and allegedly staged her own abduction. On March 19, 2024, her family received a distressing video showing Agnes and another individual bound, g@gged, and appearing inju!red, with bl00d visible around them. The supposed kidnappers demanded a ransom of ₦5 million for Agnes’s release.
Acting swiftly upon receiving the complaint, police detectives launched an intensive investigation. They successfully traced the location of the purported kidnapping and discovered Agnes, the other person from the video, and two accomplices living together without constraint.
Further inquiry uncovered that Margret Itodo, a professional makeup artist, had been hired to create a realistic appearance for the video. All four individuals involved have confessed to their roles in the deception and will face charges pending the conclusion of the investigation.
CP Adegoke Fayoade, mni, the Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, commended the detectives for their swift and thorough work in resolving the case. He urged residents of Lagos to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement promptly.
