President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima to Spend Over N10 Billion on Meals and Travel in 2024

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima are set to spend a combined N10.13 billion on meals and travel expenses in 2024, according to the proposed budget. The budget, which is currently scrutinized by the National Assembly, outlines a total expenditure of N27.5 trillion, with a projected revenue of N18.32 trillion and a deficit of N9.18 trillion.

Travel Expenses

The budget allocates N7.6 billion for President Tinubu’s travel expenses, including N638.5 million for local trips and N6.9 billion for foreign journeys. Vice President Shettima’s travel expenses are estimated at N1.8 billion, with N618.4 million designated for local travel and N1.2 billion for international trips.

Food Expenses

The budget also allocates N660.5 million for meals and foodstuff for the offices of President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima. Of this allocation, N287.8 million is designated for the President’s office, while the VP’s office receives N372.6 million.

A detailed breakdown indicates that refreshments and meals for President Tinubu will consume N33.6 million, with an additional N254.2 million allocated for foodstuff and catering material supplies. The Vice President is allocated N35 million for refreshments/meals and N337.5 million for foodstuff/catering material supplies.

Other Notable Allocations

The fiscal document also unveils an allocation of N201.4 million for the feeding of animals at Aso Rock’s zoo. Renovation of official quarters at the State House is also on the agenda, with N800 million designated for the President and Vice President’s quarters. Additionally, the 2024 budget proposal outlines N152.3 million for honorarium and sitting allowances for the President, and N67.3 million for the Vice President.

The intricate details of the budget provide a comprehensive overview of the proposed expenditures for the upcoming fiscal year.
