Attempted Assassination of Lt. Yarima Reported in Abuja Days After Clash with Wike.
Lieutenant A.M. Yarima of the Nigerian Navy, who was recently involved in a public disagreement with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has reported a dangerous attempt on his life, security officials familiar with the matter said.
The incident, which is now under official investigation, is said to have occurred on Sunday evening around 6:30 PM. According to accounts provided to the press, Yarima was targeted by a group of unidentified men while driving in the nation’s capital.

Military sources described how the officer was trailed by the suspects, who were dressed in black and traveling in two unmarked Toyota Hilux vans. The vehicles, which reportedly had no license plates, began following Yarima after he left a NIPCO filling station located off the Line Expressway.

The convoy of suspicious vehicles continued to pursue him onto Gado Nasco Way. It was at this point that the lieutenant became aware of the threat directly behind him.
“He noticed the men on his tail and made a quick, strategic move to get away,” a source within the military circles explained. The maneuver allowed Yarima to successfully break away from the armed group and avoid a potential confrontation.

Authorities have confirmed that the matter is being looked into with a sense of urgency. “The investigation is ongoing and is receiving the seriousness it deserves,” the military source added. They also noted that more specific information is being kept confidential to avoid interfering with the active probe.
This alarming event comes just days after Lieutenant Yarima was part of a security team that engaged in a tense face-off with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. The earlier confrontation took place at a contested property site in the Gaduwa District of Abuja, where words were exchanged between the official and the naval officer.
The close timing of the two events has stirred concern among observers. While there is no public evidence linking the attempted ambush to the prior dispute with the minister, the sequence has prompted questions. Officials have not commented on any potential motives behind the attack and are treating it as a separate, isolated incident for the purpose of their inquiry.
