Doctors Extract 29 Spoons, 19 Toothbrushes from Patient’s Stomach.
Doctors in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, have performed an extraordinary surgery, extracting a hoard of foreign objects from a patient’s stomach—including 29 steel spoons, 19 toothbrushes, and two pens. The procedure, while astounding from a clinical perspective, has unveiled a deeply troubling narrative of protest and alleged neglect within a de-addiction center.
The patient, a 35-year-old man named Sachin from Hapur, was admitted to the facility seeking help. However, his stay quickly became a ordeal. According to his account, the center was marked by deprivation. He claimed that the food portions were severely small and that meals brought by concerned family members were routinely intercepted, never reaching the patients they were intended for.

Driven by frustration and rage, Sachin embarked on a bizarre and dangerous form of protest. He began systematically stealing steel spoons from the facility’s kitchen. His method was deliberate: he would retreat to the bathroom, break the spoons into smaller, swallowable pieces, and wash them down with water. Over time, this act of defiance expanded to include toothbrushes and pens, culminating in a stomach filled with a shocking collection of inedible objects.

The situation reached a critical point when Sachin was rushed to a hospital, suffering from acute abdominal pain. Medical scans revealed the unsettling truth—a tangled mass of metal and plastic occupying his stomach. Doctors first attempted a less invasive endoscopic procedure but found the volume and nature of the objects made it impossible. They proceeded with a major surgical operation to safely remove all 50 items.
Medical professionals involved in the case noted that such behavior, known as pica or a related condition, is often a manifestation of underlying psychological distress. Sachin’s actions, while extreme, point to a severe cry for help in an environment where he felt voiceless.
This incident is not isolated, a similar incident happened in 2022 case a from Muzaffarnagar, also in Uttar Pradesh, where 63 spoons were surgically removed from a man’s stomach. That case was clouded by conflicting allegations, with the family blaming the center’s staff and the patient reportedly denying the claim.
