OWO CHURCH SHOOTINGS: What The Gunman Said To Me, Victim Reveals
When the priest was concluding the Pentecost Mass at Saint Francis Catholic Church in Owo, gunfire broke out behind Happiness Onuchu.
Mrs. Onuchu, a survivor of the attack, said, ” I was seated in front, and there is a door at the far end of that section as well, so we struggled to exit through that door. “
” My friend and I were considering hiding in the restroom, but she informed us that they might still come there, so we opted to scale the fence instead. “
As the crowd fled for safety, gunmen invaded the church, opened fire on the congregation, and exploded explosive devices. According to Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, the member for Owo Constituency I, who visited the area shortly after the incident, at least 70 persons were murdered or injured.
” Preliminary investigation found that the assailants approached the church during the service and began firing from outside, while about four others fired directly inside the church, ” police said in a statement.
Ms. Onuchu explained that she was unable to mount the church’ s barrier because her robe was too tight. ” A man was attempting to scale the fence nearby when a gunman arrived and shot him to death.
The gunman then instructed me to scale thee fence, which allowed me to escape. ” She stated. While many of the injured victims were transported to the Federal Medical Center, Owo for treatment, the deceased were deposited in various morgues throughout the state.
Ms. Onucha sustained knee injuries and has been taking treatment at a pharmacy near her residence. She stated that it was difficult to identify the assailant.
When asked if she knew why the gunman spared her, Ms. Onuchu replied, “Perhaps because he noticed that I was terrified and staring pitifully at him.”
