The Federal Executive Council (FEC) yesterday approved N15.73 billion for the road connecting Umana Ndiagu-Agba-Ebenebe-Amansii-Awka-Umumba Section two in Enugu State.
The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, made the disclosure while briefing State House Correspondents at the end of the meeting presided over by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Initially awarded at the cost of N10.3 billion in 2012 but later reviewed to N15.734 billion, Fashola explained that the project is to cater for six different communities in the zone.According to him, the project had suffered failed implementation in the past due to lack of funding, adding that the review was to address the challenge of erosion among others.

His words: “The memorandum that was approved today (yesterday) for the augmentation of an existing road contract. That road is a series of projects captured as UmanaNdiagu, Agba, Ebenebe, Amansii, Awka and spurs to Umumba road in Section Two in Enugu State.

“The contract was awarded in 2012 and covered six different communities namely Ebenebe, Umana, Ndiagu, Nkpodu, Ekeagu and Ugwuoba.“Because of lack of appropriate budgeting and funding, all of these projects could not be completed. There were also failures in the implementation as we inherited it.
