Fishermen at Ada in the Greater Accra Region were shocked when they caught three big sea animals on Monday.
The men who thought they had made a huge fish catch as they struggled to pull their net to the shore were shocked to discover that what they caught were not fishes, according to a report by kasapafmonline.com.
Rather, they caught three manatees, which are fully aquatic, mostly herbivorous marine mammals sometimes known as sea cows.
The fishermen believe that the sea cows catch is a good omen for them that will trigger a series of good catches this week and beyond, the report said.
Manatees measure up to 4.0 metres (13.1 ft), weigh as much as 590 kilograms (1,300 lb),[1] and have paddle-like flippers.
They are slow plant-eaters, peaceful and similar to cows on land. They often graze on water plants in tropical seas.
