Gov Uba Sani: Only 137 School Children Rescued, Not 287.

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has corrected reports regarding the number of school children abducted in Kuriga, Chikun Local Government Area of the state, stating that only 137 children were abducted, not 287 as previously reported.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics program, Sani clarified that all the abducted school children have been successfully rescued by a joint effort of the military and local authorities from Zamfara State. The abduction occurred at LEA Primary School and Government Secondary School in Kuriga approximately four weeks ago.

Contrary to initial reports indicating 287 abducted children, the Defence Headquarters confirmed that a total of 137 students were rescued from the bandits on March 6.

Governor Sani expressed relief at the successful rescue operation and emphasized that the figure released by the military is accurate, dismissing the higher number as unfounded speculation.

Despite the positive outcome, Governor Sani expressed regret over the death of a teacher who was also kidnapped during the incident. The teacher faced complications while in captivity and did not survive.

Governor Sani extended condolences to the family of the deceased teacher and offered support and comfort to the families of the rescued schoolchildren.
