The Aftermath of Obasanjo’s Meeting With Gume, Is this Another Plot to Get to the Yorubas?

It was reported a few hours ago that a reknown Islamic scholar in the North, Dr. Gumi met with Olusegun Obasanjo, the former President of Nigeria, in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The meeting was serious concerning the happenings in the country recently especially in regard to insecurity.

The country has recorded continuous killings, kidnappings, armed robbery, and other forms of illegal activities in the past few months. Due to this, many Nigerians have lost their lives and properties.

Nevertheless, both Gumi and Obasanjo during the meeting had come up with solutions to the problems of insecurity and insurgency.

They encouraged the federal government to be more anticipatory in looking after the country as the dreaded Boko Haram terrorist groups keep causing violence in various regions of the country most especially in the North East.

These lawbreakers are said to have a place for their defense and security in Sambisa forest, located in Borno State.

Following Dr. Gumi’s meeting with former President Obasanjo, both of them in a statement advised that the Federal government headed by President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint special courts to try bandits, kidnappers, and those in possession of unlawful weapons in the country.

Although, this advancement has made Nigerians react on social media while most people have said that there is something fishy about Dr. Gumi’s meeting with the former President, Olusegun Obasanjo.

According to a tweet response from one @OfficialAdekun3 who wrote in the Nigerian Pidgin English insisted that the meeting between the duo was not about the issue of insecurities in the country but a way of getting to the Yorubas.

He said ” Na lie! No be insecurity matter dem dey talk. . . dey wan use Obasanjo again to get to the Yorubas.

In fact, the above statement itself has aroused controversy and nothing to go with. This is due to the fact that Adekun was not present at the meeting and cannot just say what he feels like because that may arouse more response from the citizens of Nigeria.
