9 Killed In Fresh Attacks in Omala Community, Kogi State.

At least nine persons have been killed in the late hours of Tuesday after gunmen invaded Bagana community in the Omala Local Government Area of Kogi State.

Gunshots woke people up, and by Wednesday morning, they had counted five dead bodies, including a diesel oil dealer and a dispensary staff member of the Local Government Health Center at Ogba, both of whom lived in Bagana.

DSP William Aya, the state police command’s public relations officer, confirmed the incident, saying that one Usman Salifu called the DPO around 9. 30 p. m. on Tuesday to report that his shop had been attacked by gunmen, killing his sales boy, Bashir Sule, and three other customers, and injuring scores more.

He went on to say that after receiving the distress call, the DPO dispatched his men to the scene and took some of the injured to the hospital for treatment and that the force had launched a manhunt to apprehend the perpetrators.

According to a resident, the killings was as a result of a long- running dispute between Agatu militias and Fulani herdsmen from Benue State, which had gradually turned the town into a ghost town.

This is coming barely four days after the governor of Kogi state, Yahaya Bello declared that his state remains the safest and second most peaceful in Nigeria.

The governor disclosed this while speaking on the 30th anniversary of the creation of the state. He noted that his administration has taken the security, unity, peace, and prosperity of the people seriously right from its inception.

” Today, our state is arguably the safest in the entire country, we are rated the second most peaceful and our crime rate is second lowest. We have a hugely diverse population that is nevertheless more united now than at any time in our history. ” He said.
