Nigerian Female: Olukemi Olufunto Appointed Minister in Great Britain
Britain’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson, has appointed Olukemi Olufunto Badenoch, aged 39, as Children and Families Minister, as part of his government reshuffle. Badenoch is a British Conservative politician and Member of Parliament (MP) for Saffron Walden.
She was born in Wimbledon, London to Nigerian parents. Her childhood was spent in Lagos and the United States. She moved to the United Kingdom at the age of 16. She has been the MP for Saffron Walden since 2017 after replacing Nadhim Zawahi.

Kaduna State Government Statement on the El-Zakzaky Trial
Malam Ibrahim El-Zakzaky is facing criminal trial before the Kaduna High Court on charges filed in April 2018. The Kaduna State Government is prosecuting Malam Ibrahim El-Zakzaky on an eight-count charge, including culpable homicide punishable with death. He and his wife are the first and second defendants in The State versus Malam Ibrahim El-Zakzaky and Another (charge no. KDH/KAD/60c/2018), and his plea was taken on 2nd August 2018. His application for bail was refused on 4th October 2018, and he has since remained in the lawful custody of the state, and not in unlawful detention as being wrongly disseminated.
On Monday, 5th August 2019, the Kaduna High Court granted an application for medical leave filed by Mr. El-Zakzaky and his wife, Mrs. Zeenah Ibrahim. The court specifically said it was granting the two defendants “leave to travel out of Nigeria for urgent medical treatment at Medanta Hospital, India, under strict supervision of the Respondent and to return to Nigeria (for continuation of trial) as soon as they are discharged from the hospital”.

National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Wednesday reviewed the escalating insecurity, rising political uncertainties, biting economic hardship as well as prevailing tension in all parts of the country and raised alarm that the nation is collapsing under President Muhammadu Buhari and his All Progressives Congress (APC).
“The PDP is deeply worried that our nation, which was a prosperity hub and a reference point for democracy, personal freedom and good governance, now has all the trappings of a failed state with government, under President Buhari, being unable to guarantee any of its fundamental duties to the extent that citizens are now desperate to take their destinies in their hands,” the opposition party said.

adieu… Nobel Prize-winning Author; Toni Morrison Dies at 88
Toni Morrison, the renowned author best known for the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel “Beloved” and for being the first African American woman to win the Nobel Prize in Literature, died Monday night, her publicist and family confirmed Tuesday.
Morrison had been at the Montefiore Medical Center in New York at the time of her death, according to her publicist. She was 88.

Oyo State Governor; Makinde Approves N500,000 as Bursary for Each Student at Law School
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, Tuesday approved a sum of N500,000 as bursary for each of the 120 students, who are indigenes of the state at the Nigerian Law School.
Makinde, who announced the approval when a delegation of the students visited him in Ibadan, said the bursary was meant to cater for the 2019/2020 session of the state indigenes at the Nigerian Law School.

Eid-el-Kabir: FG Declares Monday, Tuesday as Public Holidays
The President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government has declared August 12 and 13 as public holidays to mark the 2019 Eid-el-Kabir.

A Brazilian gang leader, Clauvino da Silva is reportedly to have have tried to escape prison disguised in a female mask and wearing his 19 years old daughter’s clothes, authorities said.

Breaking: DSS Complies with Court Order on El-Zakzaky
Following the resent protest by members of Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) which has resulted to many deaths and properties worth Millions of Naira damaged, the Department of State Services (DSS) has complied with the court order on El-Zakzaky.
According to a statement signed by it’s Public Relations Officer, Peter Afunanya, the DSS will grant Ibrahim El-Zakzaky bail to leave the country for medical trip to India.

Three Nigerian Men on Death Row for Trafficking Cocaine in Cambodia
Three Nigerian men who were caught in Cambodia with cocaine “ice” were sentenced to death after being found guilty by the court. They were caught with large quantities of cocaine ice in the country.
While waiting for the hangman or the slaughter, there are indications that the three Nigerians may not die eventually, courtesy of the amended law in that country. Some observers have expressed that they should thank their God that death penalty has been abolished in Cambodia. They may bag five to 20 years imprisonment on appeal. However, the years of imprisonment may increase if they lose the appeal.

Father Allegedly Cuts the Throat of His Eight Year Old Daughter in Yola
An eight-year-old girl, Zarau Seidu, is now lying critically ill at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yola, the Adamawa State capital, after her father allegedly cut her throat with a knife.
The suspect, Mr. Seidu Dan Iya, who is believed to be suffering from a psychological problem after an alleged long time drug abuse, when asked by neighbours why he cut his daughter’s throat, said he just felt like doing it.
