‘I Have No One Else’: Mother of Kidnapped Unijos Student Breaks Silence After Losing Husband 15 Years Ago.
Jos, Nigeria – The mother of John Arum Azi, the University of Jos student taken by bandits on his way to a repair job in Kaduna, has opened up about her pain. In a recent interview, she revealed that she lost her husband fifteen years ago. Since that day, she has been the only provider and caretaker for her children.
She told her story to Kim, a reporter who reached out to the family. Her voice was low, and she struggled at times to hold back tears. She explained that after John’s university graduation, she had started to feel a little hope. She believed her son would finally help carry the family’s burden. But then came the news of his kidnapping.

“I have been mother and father to my children since my husband died,” she said. “John was the one I looked up to after his education. Now he is gone, taken on his way to work.”
She added that she depends on her children for financial support. John was heading to Kaduna to repair a keyboard for a client when armed men stopped the vehicle he was traveling in. All the passengers were taken. The family later saw a video online showing John being beaten with heavy sticks while he cried for help.

Since watching that footage, she has committed everything to God. She prays daily for his safe return. “I have no one else,” she said.

Earlier reports stated that the kidnappers were demanding thirty million naira for John’s release. That amount has now been reduced to four million naira, according to sources close to the family. But even that lower figure is more than the mother can afford.

She has been selling food items in her local market to survive. There is no savings account with millions of naira. There is no rich relative to call. There is only prayer and a faint hope that the government or kind-hearted Nigerians will step in.

Many online users have rallied behind the family. One person wrote: “We join her in prayer, asking God to bring John back safely. God, please save him.” Another said: “This woman lost her husband 15 years ago. Must she also lose her son? Someone help her.”
As of now, no official rescue operation has been confirmed. Security agencies have not issued any public statement about John’s case, even though the kidnappers showed their faces in the video.
For a widow who has already buried her husband, the thought of burying her son is too heavy to carry. She is asking only for one thing: to see John walk through her door again.
