Let’s Talk: “Pleas Oh, Is This How They Produce the Palm Oil We Cook?” (VIDEO).
Palm oil is one of the most important food items needed in every kitchen.
It is surely indeed a source of income to many people around our country Nigeria and West Africa in general.
It is an oil that is natural extracted from palm fruits. While vegetable oil is Important too, palm oil is the most needed in the kitchen.
But have you seen where and how it is processed?
Of cos there are many oil mills known to us and we all have seen them process the oil.
Look at the photos below, are you aware of this method of oil processing?
They have appeared on the Internet for so long but a lady reposted them on Facebook hours ago asking if this is the method they are using to make the red oil people buy from the market.
Methods of processing and making palm oil in different parts of southern Nigeria differs, in fact, the most popular one known to every family is the method whereby the palm seed is boiled in very hot water and thereafter pounds seed in a mortar.
Oil mills offer a very fast and easier way of processing large amounts of palm oil.
This method posted by the lady is very primitive and it is still preferable to many people around many localities in Africa.
Many oil mills have machines that press out the oil from the seed but many people would also go the extra mile to manually extract more oil from the chaff. Meanwhile, this method seen in these pictures is really unhygienic.
No matter what their reasons for using this method, it is still very much odd and unhygienic.
However, it is really an old and primitive method but sometimes many people prefer old methods to new ones and that is why we should be careful with the things we purchase from the market.
Let’s have your thoughts on this.
