Meet The Very First Indigenous First Lady Of Nigeria – Flora Ogbenyeanu Ogoegbunam.
It is always said that behind any great man there is always a strong woman.
This was the case of Nigerians first ever indigenous president in the person of Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, who was privileged to have the support of a great and beautiful woman behind him.
She was no other than the late Mrs Flora Ogbenyeanu Ogoegbunam Azikiwe, who happens to be Zik’s first wife.

She was born Flora Ogoegbunam on the 7th day of August 1917 in Onitsha, present- day Anambra State to the family of Chief Ogoegbunam (the Adazia of Onitsha).
In the year 1934, Flora met the great Zik of Africa (Nnamdi Azikiwe) and the both kicked of their love life.
On the 4th day of April 1936, the two lover birds got married at an occasion that held in James Town, Accra, Gold Coast which is in present-day Ghana.
This was because Nnamdi Azikiwe was then working the editor of African Morning Post in Ghana then.
That very union was blessed with four kids (a daughter and three sons).
She was said to have been a very loving, active and supporting wife and mother.
She was a member of the Eastern Working Committee of the National Council of Nigeria and the Cameroons (NCNC) and also the first matron of Home Science Association.
Furthermore, she was also said to have been a great support to her husband during his days in politics.
She was once even seen during t a camping trip where she stood up to address Nigerians.
Flora became the very first indigenous first lady of Nigeria after her husband Nnamdi Azikiwe became the president of Nigeria in the year 1960.
Death finally came for this great woman in August 1983.
