SAD! One Shot Dead As Robbers Attack Two Banks In Osun State.
Bank robberies are becoming a usual occurrence in Osun state as reports of robberies are reported almost every month.
On Thursday 5th of August, 2021 robbers stormed two banks in Iree in Boripe Local Government Area of Osun State killing a yet to be identified person believed to be a student of the Osun State Polytechnic.
According to reports, immediately the armed men arrived in the town, they shot sporadically into the air to scare the passersby and the occupants of the two banks, UBA and Access Bank, where they carried out their operation.
Customers who were at the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) stands were said to have hurriedly left their transactions undone and ran for their dear lives.
Unfortunately, one of them believed to be a student of the institution was said to have been hit by a stray bullet fired by the robbers.
Though the banks are situated close to a police station, the robbers are said to have operated undisturbed, carting money and valuables from the bank before fleeing.
The robbers operated undisturbed because they had earlier attacked the Iree Divisional Police Headquarters according to a source.
The attack began at about 3:50 pm and when they were done they escaped through Iree-Ada road.
The frequency of these attacks is suspicious. It is either these robbers are working hand in hand with the security in these banks because how can banks be this porous and prone to robbery all the time?
In a SIMILAR vein, two separate armed robbery attacks occurred in two banks in Ikire/Apomu areas in Osun state on Wednesday, June 2 at about 6.10 pm.
According to reports, the armed robbers had earlier robbed a bank in Apomu town around 3 pm before proceeding to Ikire where they killed three persons at a commercial bank automated teller machine.
Four police officers identified as ASP Osho Oluranti, Inspector Lekan Olalere, Two (2) Special Constabularies; namely Oladeni Olalekan, and Oyedeji Muyideen were also killed during the attack.
A statement released by the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Opalola Yemisi Olawoyin, said the armed robbers numbering about Thirty-five(35) came in about Five(5) Vehicles, first attacked the Ikire Divisional Police HQ and the Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) pinned down at Ikoyi-Osun with several explosive devices and several guns, firing in a bid to subdue the capacity of the Police while attempting to rob the banks.
”On sighting the overwhelming Policemen Comprising prompt response Response Unit (PRU), CP’s Surveillance team, IRT Operatives, STS, 39 PMF, JTF, along with the local Security outfits, who swiftly engaged them in a fierce gun duel, the robbers began to flee.
While escaping, they shot sporadically, and regrettably, three (3) Civilians were shot namely; Toheeb Oyebola, Temilorun Adebiyi, and one other, (whose identity is not yet known), all-male.
They did not succeed robbing any of the Banks.”
The police spokesperson added that the bodies of the deceased persons have been deposited at Oluyoro Catholic Hospital morgue, Apomu while efforts are being made to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
