It was February 2010 when an apartment fire broke out in the Bronx, New York, trapping several members of a family inside a smoke-filled fifth-floor unit. Among those trapped was 18-year-old Vanessa Scott and her 7-month-old cousin, Zaniyah Alexander. What happened next would show just how far one person is willing to go to protect a child.
